I have been trying reaper and really like it. However currently I have hooked in Audacity as the audio editor, however I would like something more native. I want something which when opened I can edit the audio while seeing the beats, not seconds. Is this possible? If i can figure how to do this I will buy reaper :D Also how do i add a midi event without recording?

Hi Raider and welcome here to Reaperland! :) If you have no special demands in editing audio (e.g.drawing directly in the wave to eliminate clicks or so) you don't necessarily need an external audio editor. you can split all items (the rectangles, showing the waveform) anywhere, either by placing the edit cursor at the split point and pressing s or by making a selection and pressing shift-s. In the latter the item gets split at start- and end-point of the selection. You can also make a selection and, while holding down the ctrl-key move the part of the item inside the selection anywhere else while the original stays where it was (copy). All your edits are non-destructive, that means your original soundfiles won't get altered, but when you've done your work, you can render and have an edited new soundfile. This of course, you can do at any stage of editing. You can also apply effects to short snippets of your audio file and render them as new takes. All this has two advantages: You can still see the ruler the way you've set it up and you can undo everything in case you made a mistake you didn't notice in the first place, but it has the drawback that you get more audio files on your harddrive. But don't worry: you can also automatically delete unused files when your work is finished. To insert MIDI notes go to the MIDI editor (on my puter its ctrl-alt-e, might be different at yours). There is an inline MIDI editor that changes the item visually and you can input notes there. And there's the MIDI editor which is a window. Here you can also enter notes by clicking somewhere in the grid, but you can also enter controllers. On the left bottom side, there is a rolldown menu where you can choose controllers to add them. The little + symbol is to create another controller lane, in case you want to edit more than one controller at the same time. And on the right side of that you see the lane, where you can paint the controller curve which is displayd as blocks - one for each event. HTH -Data

thanks for the welcome. I am looking to edit. Sometimes I like micro cut little bits of audio that are silent to bring my guitar playing back into good time with the beat if things aren't right in one section but I liked the take or remove any latency.

thanks for the replies. It seems it is possible I just don't know how :) EricM any chance you could give me a quick run down on the process for doing what you said.

Might be an idea to look at the pipeline audio and rocket tutorial videos... I was a bit lost when I first started uing REAPER because it was a bit different to other audio apps; the Pipeline vids got me going on the right track. Pipeline Audio vids: -although many of the links don't seem to work anymore... Gearwire Vids: -links from post No 8. Rocket vids: > ...and this page from the wiki will help the user with specific answers, although there's lots in the U&R manual too... >
